I am a sophomore at the University of Colorado at Boulder studying Anthropology. Two years ago I studied abroad in Brussels, Belgium and last year I was in Washington, D.C. studying International affairs at George Washington University. I love to travel and most of my hobbies take place outdoors, such as rock climbing and snowboarding. I have always loved learning about different peoples and lifestyles, so Anthropology seemed a natural choice.

I am a small town girl from Casper, Wyoming who through an extremely broad list of careers settled on Anthropology through a few struggles, and despite some controversy within my extremely conservative family.
The exact words of my grandmother were, "Anthropology... like apes and skulls... why?" However, I disagree with her, feeling the study of people of all kinds from years past and currently is very interesting and relevant to how we live life today. This aside, I have not seen nearly enough of the world as I wish to. I am extremely bull headed and driven, yet looking for nothing more to have a good time, learning, and living. I constantly have my camera in hand ready to document what’s around me, and more than anything enjoy sitting down and writing whatever I possibly can. Though I may not know much of what’s outside of a small windy Wyoming town, I have hopes and a creative drive I hope to bring far beyond the borders of the Midwest.

Currently i am studying at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. My self-financed year out of education working in Central America was the most consciously educational year I've undertaken, learning world knowledge and valuable life skills through living abroad. The basic independent fieldwork I performed has increased the desire to study this discipline further, as I am fascinated by the way the world is continuously changing through the diaspora of peoples. Anthropology has altered my perspective on everything, providing an appreciation of how incredible the world and its people can be.

I am in the International Baccalaureate program at my high school. I am in all advanced classes and I’m very interested in anthropology as my career field. I hope to be a professor of anthropology someday. I’m young but I’m a fierce, determined, hard worker and I don’t encourage anyone to count me out because of my age! I’m creative, so I like to think, and I write, sketch, and take photos. I’m excited for this chance to explore my field of interest extensively for the first time, meet new people who love what I love, branch out beyond my US home, and most importantly, learn about people and places past and present in Malta!

The field of anthropology has intrigued me for several years, and through taking my first anthropology course—Medical Anthropology—this fall, I have come to see it as a field that I would like to study further when I enter university this fall, and possibly one that I may pursue as my major or minor. This summer field school program seems to present a very unique opportunity through which I could gain a first-hand understanding of what would be required to pursue a career in cultural anthropology. Being able to work on a fairly individualized level with professors and students at a more advanced level of anthropological study is something I did not expect to have the opportunity to do until much later in my studies, thus this Summer School program excites me greatly.

I’m in the first year of a Master in Social and Cultural Anthropology
at the Catholic University of Louvain. I would like to go to
Malta to learn more about fieldwork and work on my thesis. I hope to
meet new people to exchange ideas with and make friends with. I look
forward to meeting new people from all over the world. Because I also
have a Bachelors degree in Social Work, I am interested in social
problems and themes of all sorts. Other fields of interest are:
tourism, globalisation, ecology, arts, female anthropology, ... Though
I am still quite inexperienced, I am always eager to learn and
explore. I hope this project will be the first of many in which I take
part.

I am currently a junior at Tulane University in New Orleans studying Anthropology. My interests lie in primarily in language study (particularly Italian and Arabic). Three years ago I studied abroad in Central Italy studying the classics and I spent last summer in Northern India working with the Tibetan refugee population in the city of Dharamsala. I love to travel and experience new things. I am also an avid sports fan and enjoy playing both ice hockey and rugby.

I was groomed to be an anthropologist from an early age. The child of a single mother, who was herself an avid student of life and fascinated by anything considered unusual by mainstream society, my childhood was a whirlwind of multicultural experiences. I took a somewhat circuitous route but I am currently a student at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, majoring in anthropology and history, minoring in psychology. I love new experiences, meeting new people, and learning about anything and everything!

I like to think of myself as an explorer. Would I have been born in the 1700s/1800s I most likely would have ended up on an expedition to the Americas or on Darwin’s Beagle. I do travel geographically, but I am crazy about studying a broad range of topics, from Japanese wood prints to psychology to history. I like the title of one of my books, “The Social Animal”: A very good way to describe myself. I am very social, sociable, I love meeting and doing things with others. I would say the ‘animal’ in me is more about my playful, joyful, free nature rather than bad manners.

I am currently a sophomore majoring in anthropology at
Kansas State University
with focuses in linguistic and cultural anthropology.
I am also minoring in both Spanish and Japanese. Over the years I have been fortunate enough to travel a fair amount, and I'm grateful. My experiences added to what makes me so passionate about traveling and learning about foreign languages and cultures. I also have an ambition to help people from different cultures around the world to better understand and appreciate one another. I'm very excited to have this opportunity.

I am a student at Butler University in Indianapolis Indiana, majoring in Anthropology, Science Technology and Society with a minor in Classical Studies. I am always interested in other people’s interests, such as religious views, music, and lifestyles. My interests in other people have led me to anthropology and I am excited to learn more about people from another culture through experience instead of through a book.
